1 degree and snowing when driving to the yard this morning… can you believe it’s April?
Knockaderry Flyer won nicely at Mollington on Saturday. A former Cheltenham winner and it was great to see him in the winners enclosure. He’s always been a horse that I have had a soft spot for and it meant a lot to see him win on Saturday. Tommie gave him a great ride and won well in the end by 6 lengths. A well deserved winner for the team and a special mention must go to Ella who looks after Derry and rides him most days.
Clondaw Bunny also ran on Saturday and headed to Hornby Castle to run in the intermediate. He looked like the winner 3 fences from the finished but unfortunately made a mistake 2 out and parted company with jockey, Oliver Puffett. Frustrating to say the least and poor Oliver fractured his cheek bone and has had stitches in his face. They both live to fight another day and well done to Zack and Hannah for driving there and back.
Sunday wasn’t quite so exciting at Cothlestone.
Madame Hannah made her debut over fences. She jumped and travelled well for a long way but made a mistake down the back and started to lose touch. Tommie O’Brien looked after her and pulled her up with a positive experience under her belt and we will go again in the near future for owner/breeders Roger and Yvonne Allsop.
Heist didn’t look to enjoy the conditions race. Big fields and a change in tactics didn’t look to suit him but he had a easy race… back to the drawing board.
All horses were absolutely fine this morning.
Back to the yard…
Jockeys Tommie O’brien and professional jockey James Best rode out. James last rode in point to points years ago but he’s a local friend who’s happy to help out when he’s free.
It’s great to be allowed to have owners and visitors up to the yard. This week we had Jeff, Gill and Charlotte Boyce visit their WATTIAP horse, Heist
And Sam King visited the yard and watched the schooling morning.
Cloudy Joker is entered on Friday for members of The Jump On Board Syndicate. Cloudy is the most enthusiastic horse on the yard and I ride him myself every day. Hes a real character and holds entry’s in the Ladies open, Men’s open and conditions race at Adlington, Kent.
Aintree put on a spectacular festival. How good is Rachel Blackmore and Henry De Bromhead? They’re a class act and have inspired a generation although the Irish are taking over!
The foxhunters is my favourite race of the year and what fantastic horsemanship from the amateur jockeys riding. The term ‘Amateur’ is purely by name and not their ability in the saddle. James King is a good friend of mine and rides for me when commitments allow and I was delighted for him and the charismatic Joe O’Shea! Izzie Marshall and Gina Andrews also gave their mounts incredible rides to come 2nd and 4th.
My one line weather forecast gets a lot of stick from regular blog readers but with the weather how it is, I might need more than just one line… we could do with some rain and sun!! Sunny, dry and cold with a strong chance of surprise snowy showers!
Have a great week
