Monday 1st March

Light at the end of the tunnel?

Promising news from the most recent public announcement and it looks like pointing will return on the 31st March! The fixtures list has been released and Mr Wright (ceo of point to pointing) has done a fantastic job rescheduling… que another Comley’s Countdown…?

Back to the yard, we have 3 runners this week

Clondaw Bunny heads to Leicester tomorrow under Philip Armson. He ran well at Warwick in a competitive race last month and heads to Leicester in fantastic form – He should out run his odds.

Heist is having his second run for me in a competitive race. He won’t enjoy this soft ground but he’s in such great form at home we are looking forward to seeing him on a racecourse again for his large enthusiastic syndicate! Tom Garner rides. Still shares available.

Knockaderry Flyer heads to Ludlow on Thursday. It looks a good race on paper and we hope he enjoys it slightly more than Wincanton a few weeks ago. He will be counting down the days until pointing returns where he can run in a weaker race where he can be slightly more competitive. Tom rides.

David Bass did the steering on my last few runners but is unfortunately unavailable at the moment as he’s being very careful on the run up to Cheltenham as he’s got a nice book of competitive rides.

Back to the yard… David Bass, Phillip Armson, Thomas Garner, Harry Stock and Zack Davidson have all be in to ride out this week.

On top of our older horses running in hunter chases, We’ve been busy building up the point to pointers work load ahead of the long awaited return, along with pre trainers and plenty of breakers and problem horses. It’s lovely to keep the yard versatile and keeping us very busy during what is a quiet spell for so many people!

This week we worked and schooled Schiaparelli Filly, CaptainOfIndustry, Heist, Clondaw Bunny, Knockaderry Flyer and Call His Bluff.

Madame Hannah and Cloudy joker have stepped up their work along with a few of the 4yos.

In other news…

Bad news that amateurs can’t ride at Cheltenham this year… the 3 amateur races won’t be the same, especially the foxhunters which is the pinnacle of many amateurs season. Hopefully they’ll be back for aintree!

A fairytale ending for Black Cortons career as he’s been retired and will be staying with popular, charismatic jockey Bryony Frost. I’m sure Bryony will give Black Corton the best retirement home.

And a not so fairytale story was published this morning about Gordon Elliot’s photograph and statement published on social media. Not what you’d expect from a top trainer and it puts the racing world in a very dark hole. I can assure you that racehorses receive 5* treatment, around the clock care and are really treated like equine royalty. Unfortunately some racehorses face the ultimate sacrifice and get injured, and occasionally those injuries can be fatal, but it’s our job to handle the situation efficiently, retain our professionalism along with the horses dignity, which unfortunately is where Gordon Elliott has received a ‘mis understanding’. A investigation is underway and I’m sure Gordon will face the appropriate punishment, but in the meantime the racing industry can assure you that every horse with any trainer in the country is receiving the best care imaginable!

A cloudy but spring-like week forecast. Have a good weekend, hopefully see you on a racecourse soon!
