Max Comley Racing Ltd, Brockhill Quarry, Naunton, GL54 3AG

Monday 26th July 2021

It’s our quiet time of year. Not long before the pointers come back in preparing for the end of October.

During the summer, we focus on mainly breakers and pre trainers and sourcing young horses to run in maidens and bumpers next year. We also get plenty of problem horses which owners have been struggling with for ridden behaviour issues which I enjoy sorting out. It’s very rewarding and I enjoy working with eventers and competition horses as well as the race horses. A different style of riding all together.

A couple of weeks ago, we picked up a few young horses from owner/breeders, Roger and Yvonne Allsop to start their education and begin their journey into becoming hopefully successful racehorses, and also a couple who have finished their racing careers and looking for new homes. Kayf Tara x Aunt Harriet and Madame Verity returned, along with Madame Hannah and Jasper who are both looking for good homes outside of racing, which leads nicely onto the panorama documentary.

I don’t feel like we need to dwell on this for very long. We make it very public what happens to all our horses once retired, and we make every effort to ensure all our horses get rehomed to suitable homes with a policy that we will have them back if their new owner is struggling with them. Below are a few photos of horses in their new homes. I feel racing as a industry needs to fight back and release a documentary of what happens to the majority of horses that get fantastic homes in their retirement. Perhaps we don’t make it public enough what happens to our horses, so we’re in the process of creating a ‘Where are they now’ section on our website with pictures and a story of former MCR horses and what they’re doing in their second life.

With the racehorses returning to the yard next week, we’re looking for another member of staff to join the team. If you fancy working in a successful, professional team and confident around young horses, please give me a call! (07972922661)

Finally, former employee and conditional jockey, Ben Love has popped over for a few weeks from Ireland to ride out. It’s been great to catch up and have him back on the yard.

A cooler week  and some welcome showers forecast.

Have a great week,
