Summer has arrived, and the point to point season is almost over….
Garthorpe Saturday was lovely weather and great to see crowds back racing.
Tango Pete won on debut in the final race – the 4&5 yo bumper and James King took the ride. He creeped into the race sweetly and won by 3 1/2 lengths for the ‘It Takes Two To Tango Syndicate’, made up of Joanne Graham, Susie Farnham, Pete Rimel, David Tyler and Will Lazer. A great way to start to racehorse ownership! Ex jockey turned successful Bloodstock agent, Ed Bailey, bought Tango Pete for me from the sales last year at great value!
Our other runners weren’t quite so exciting.
Clondaw Bunny looked like he wants a holiday after a long season.
Bernardelli didn’t look to enjoy his day out and is now retired. He will enjoy retirement with his owner, Ella McGarty Jones.
1 runner at the final meeting on Sunday at Kingston Blount. Cloudy Joker holds 2 entry’s in the men’s and ladies opens. The ground has dried up which will suit him so we’re hopeful of a good run.
The yard is starting to go quiet as more horses head out on their summer holidays which means the summer jobs begin. Pressure washing, yard repairs and general maintenance ready for the horses to come back into training in August.
Alongside the racing, I do lots of breakers and problem horses – and not just racehorses. We’re currently very busy with them and I find it extremely rewarding and we have had some great feedback. It’s even better to see them excel in their chosen disciplines!
No jockeys in this week but we had our weekly visit from Justine. Justine is a event rider who comes in once a week to do flatwork on a few of the horses. Getting them to use muscles they don’t usually use and working them in a different way.
Last week we hosted a owners day and had a fantastic turnout (about 80 owners and their friends/family!). Lots of friendly faces enjoyed a bbq in the sun and plenty of drinks consumed. It was fantastic to see everyone after what has been a very tricky 18 months for everyone, and lovely to socialise (socially distanced!). Looking forward to doing another open day at the start of next season! A massive thank you to everyone who helped out – Hannah, Jess, Ella, Jo, Callum and Sean!
Some fantastic racing at the weekend from Epsom! Adayar and Adam Kirby won the derby well and how impressive was Snowfall?
Finally, happy birthday to owner/rider Oliver Puffett. Ollie has had a great first season as a jockey and is looking forward to next year.
A hot, sunny and dry week forecast
